Sunday After School Program

Every Sunday, all students in elementary, middle, and high school are welcome to attend the After School Program.  We start the program with a feeding. Our budget is Php 12,000.00 (Php 40 per kid) for the food and learning materials.

Project PEARLS is a growing institution that aims to reach out to more children who need quality care, especially after school. Instead of playing, socializing, spending time with friends, or exploring new interests, many of these children spend their hours alone and taking care of themselves or engaging in child labor. Not only are these children often bored and lonely, they are also in a significantly unsafe environment in comparison to their peers in supervised settings. These children face a higher risk of:

● low grades
● behavioral problems
● drugs, alcohol, or cigarette usage
● crimes and participation in other high-risk behavior
● risk of involvement in child labor through scavenging trash
● dropping out of school

What is the Sunday After School Program?

The Sunday After School Program of Project PEARLS is a program aiming to provide the opportunity to children from Helping Land to provide enriching activities after the school day (weekend), help curtail the number of students who drop out of school, reduce the number of children involved in scavenging trash and doing labor, improve attendance in school, improve academic success, develop and instill discipline and teamwork through various group activities, encourage children to explore special interests such as music and arts and develop social values and character. It also gives a chance to children who do not go to school to still learn academically and be given a chance to actually learn and enjoy rather than just scavenging trash for food.
This program runs every Sunday in Helping Land with our ASP Coordinator Jedda Punzalan leading the session along with volunteer-teachers and they usually hold the program from 8am-11am. Besides the academic activities and tutorials that ASP is mainly offering, a feeding program is also in effect before ASP. Project PEARLS ensures with the Sunday After School Program that we feed not only the children’s tummies but also their minds and hearts.

What ages are served by the Sunday After School Program, and what kinds of activities do they offer?

This program caters to elementary, high school and college students from Helping Land. Children who are also interested to spend their Sunday mornings wanting to learn about basic academic lessons and other activities of the program are also included.
This program creates a safe, healthy, and stimulating place for school-aged children and youth, while providing opportunities for participation in some or all of the following activities:
● academic skill-building, homework help, and remedial help
● exploration of special interests such as art, music, dance, crafts, games, etc.
● cultural activities

In addition to the above activities, this program also provide the children with:

● an environment that strengthens social skills and character
● feeding program to meet students’ nutritional needs
● safe indoor space for learning and playtime
● ongoing relationships with caring adults

If you wish to teach minds, touch hearts and transform lives on a work-free Sunday morning or sponsor one of it, come and join us!
