MANILA — Tala Philippines partnered with Project PEARLS for an outreach program in Tondo, Manila on May 2, aiming to empower underserved communities and promote financial literacy.

The initiative included a feeding program, scholarship grants for 20 students, and a financial literacy workshop for high school and college scholars.

As part of the partnership, Tala employees engaged in livelihood programs established by Project PEARLS and facilitated discussions on financial management, including saving, budgeting, and avoiding scams.

“Our partnership with Project PEARLS stems directly from Tala’s mission to advance financial health for the global majority. Their core programs in education, financial literacy, and skills development align perfectly with our goal of empowering underserved communities here in the Philippines,” said Mia Lim, People Director of Tala Philippines.

According to Lim, it is through initiatives like this that Tala employees can witness firsthand the impact of their contributions.

The TALAkayan session featured registered financial planner Jog Bondoc, who emphasized responsible financial decision-making for students.

Project PEARLS Education Partnership Manager Karen Beblañas highlighted the importance of donor support, stating that partnerships such as Tala’s contribution help sustain educational opportunities for 800 scholars from preschool to college.

Tala Philippines General Manager Moritz Gastl underscored the significance of financial education for young learners, while President and Head of Finance Charisse Alvarez reiterated the company’s commitment to empowering communities through sustainable initiatives.

The event also included arts and crafts activities for elementary students and livelihood sessions for women, further supporting Project PEARLS’ mission to provide holistic community assistance.
