Sexual and Reproductive Health seminar for PEARLS’ high School and college scholars

A great way to kick off the new year is by empowering the youth through sex education! Our high school and college scholars had their 3-part Sexual & Reproductive Health seminar in partnership with Likhaan.

The first session held on the 9th of January aimed at strengthening the ability of our scholars to make informed decisions on reproductive health, sexuality, and emotional & physical health. Our scholars were enlightened about addressing their health and well-being by providing an opportunity to present sexuality with a positive approach, emphasizing values such as respect, inclusion, non-discrimination, equality, empathy, responsibility, and reciprocity.

In their second session conducted on January 16, Likhaan professionals discussed Understanding STIs and HIV. The goal of the seminar is to utilize the prevention and control of HIV and STIs. The scholars were educated regarding their important role in reducing stigma and discrimination by offering support and speaking out to correct myths, misconceptions, and stereotypes about HIV and STIs.

The third sessionthat happened on January 23 tackled Teen Pregnancy and Maternal Health. This lecture raised awareness on their sexual & reproductive health and rights, offering our scholars complete and accurate information which will help them to understand and take responsibility for their sexuality; and improve their quality of life by avoiding unwanted pregnancy.

The fourth and last session occurred on the 30th of January and focused on Family Planning. The objective of the seminar is to raise our scholars’ knowledge when it comes to making the right choices. They also learned about the risks that may occur before, during, or after childbirth. It may also reduce incidences of unwanted pregnancies and empower the youth, especially women, to make their own responsible and informed decisions regarding motherhood, education, career, and financial security.

We, at Project PEARLS, believe that a healthy family is the foundation of a healthy community

Thank you so much, Likhaan, for making this month-long seminar a success! Together, we truly imparted sexual and reproductive responsibility among our scholars. These will surely help them navigate their sexuality better and improve their personal choices!
