Last January 12, the Taal Volcano phreatic eruption affected thousands of families in various municipalities in Batangas, Philippines. The families who fled for safety have lost almost everything including their homes, pets, farm animals, and livelihood.
In response to the situation, Project Pearls conducted fundraising campaigns in partnership with kind and generous donors from different parts of the world to initiate relief and recovery efforts.
Project PEARLS’ main goal was to put together around 1000 Children’s Survival Backpacks filled with essentials to help affected children feel safe. These backpacks will also serve as their “security blankets” — something they can bring with them wherever they go.
Each backpack contained the following:
- sleeping mat
- light blanket
- stuffed animal/pillow
- bath & face towels
- respiratory masks
- food bars/snacks
- activity books
- school supplies
- letters of hope & love from PEARLS children and team
And because of YOUR support to these children and their families greatly affected by the eruption, we also got to help out with their other needs! Your generous donation and contribution resulted in the following efforts:
Project PEARLS & Art Relief Mobile Kitchen at Alfonso, Cavite
We were humbled to be in the company of heroes from Art Relief Mobile Kitchen (ARMK) on January 28 at Alfonso, Cavite, one of the areas where a lot of people were evacuated from deeply affected towns!
Project PEARLS donated dozens of food items, kitchen materials, and relief items to assist with their program where they conducted feeding programs for thousands of people from various evacuation areas.
Our team helped out with the preparation, visits at one of the evacuation centers to serve food and repacking of relief items for distribution.
